Forward Connor Zary suffered an injury that at first glance appears very serious on Tuesday night during the game between the Calgary Flames and the Anaheim Ducks.
The Alberta player left for the locker room in the second period, unable to put weight on his left leg, and was escorted by team trainers. The team did not provide an update on his condition.
Zary had possession of the puck as he entered Ducks territory. He tried to avoid the check of defender Drew Helleson, but he was hit in the left knee in his maneuver. He collapsed on the ice, immediately holding his left knee.
Helleson received a game misconduct on the sequence.
Zary was playing his 40th match of the season. He has 10 goals and 22 points under his belt since the start of the campaign.
As for the result of the match, Jonathan Huberdeau gave the Flames a 3-2 victory in overtime.
The Flames played on the power play during overtime. Huberdeau was lucky when the puck returned in front of the Ducks’ net and the Quebecer pushed the puck flying into an abandoned cage.
Mason McTavish forced overtime with a power play goal midway through the third period. Alex Killorn was the other scorer in the Ducks camp.
MacKenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri found the back of the net in regulation time for the Calgary team.
