The national team will take part in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the 2025 edition, following an agreement with the Confederation of African Football. Only, it will not be with the selection of premises.
The 8th edition of the African Nations Championship is scheduled for February 1 to 28, 2025. For the moment, 17 selections are involved in the tournament. Algeria has decided not to take part. Ditto for Egypt, South Africa and Tunisia.
If such a decision was taken, it is quite simply because it risks upsetting the programming in the national championship. Teams that have more than three players will request the postponement of their matches, which would put the Professional Football League in a very embarrassing situation.
But the case has seen a major twist in recent hours. Indeed, the Algerian Football Federation has reached an agreement with the African Football Confederation for Algeria to take part in CHAN.
Agreement reached between the FAF and the CAF
According to our colleagues from El-Khabar, the FAF has imposed certain conditions on CAF for the national selection to participate in the tournament. The first is that CHAN is not postponed until next June.
The second is that the national selection is a mix of young internationals (U17, U20, etc.) and possibly a few senior players. According to the same source, it is not Madjid Bougherra, who recently announced his return to EN A’, who will lead the selection of the premises, but rather the two technicians Foued Chiha and Karim Kaced.
And as CAF wants to add two selections to reach the number 19 of selections concerned by CHAN, a small tournament will soon be organized. In addition to Algeria, it will see the participation of Egypt, South Africa, Comoros, Malawi, Gambia and Gabon. Algeria is exempt from the first round of this tournament and will play a single qualifying match for CHAN-2025, which will take place in Tanzania.
Note that the CHAN-2025 draw will take place on January 15 in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
