He thought he was escaping a check, but was finally caught by the patrol. A 29-year-old man was sentenced this Tuesday to six months suspended sentence for a refusal to comply in Évron, in Coëvrons, in June 2024. He had notably accelerated on a motorbike when seeing the gendarmes and refused to give way at a roundabout. He was driving without insurance and at excessive speed. He also received several fines and a driving license suspension for three months.
That day, the gendarmes heard the motorcycle arriving quickly at a checkpoint in Évron. The driver does not respect the obligation to stop and still enters a roundabout, overtaking a priority. A little further on, he even climbs onto the sidewalk to avoid a patrol and runs away. He was finally found later by the police.
“This reaction is completely stupid”
When he first hears it, he says it’s not him. At the second time, he still denies the facts. Today, he admits the facts on the stand. “At the time of the incident, I got scared. As soon as they whistled, I accelerated, there was adrenaline”he explains. “Or adrenaline, you were still heard twice and you still denied it”questions the president. “I was scared.”
“I had all the elements to say that the defendant was indeed the driver that day, but he admits today, it is to his credit. It’s a shame, because it required a lot of work for the gendarmes and we could have done without them”underlines the prosecutor during her requisitions. “He was acting smart on his motorbike to escape the police”she adds, “this reaction is completely stupid”replies the defendant at the bar. She is therefore asking for six months in prison with a simple suspended sentence and a fine of 700 euros. “Debility is like lying, it’s easy to get into, but difficult to get out of.”summarizes the biker’s lawyer.
The man therefore receives a six-month suspended prison sentence. simple and a fine of 750 euros. His license was also canceled for three months and his motorcycle was confiscated.
