The first quarter-finals of the Croky Cup were played this evening, for the first match of this new year in the Belgian elite. The Club and Genk did not miss their meeting and have firmly validated their ticket for the next round.
The evening program in the Belgian Cup pitted STVV and Genk against each other, who met at Stayen for a lively Limburg Derby as is often the case. The game started very strong with several chances on both sides. But while STVV proved dangerous, Oh Hyeon-Gyu (30th) opened the scoring for Genk.
After the break, despite a great start for the Canaries, the South Korean cooled down the Stayen by doubling the lead for the visitors (52nd). Under the eyes of their new recruit Didier Lamkel Zethe Canaries quickly collected the zero-three of the works ofEl Ouahdi (63rd) who definitively killed the match, before Speed-Sternberg (81st) drives home the point two minutes after entering the game.
Racing demonstrated solidity but above all efficiency, and confirmed its current status in the Belgian elite. He will meet Bruges in the semi-finals for a clash which promises sparks.
Bruges does the job and reaches the last four
In the other quarter-final this evening, Bruges dismissed OHL. The Club quickly achieved its domination thanks to Christos Tzolis (22nd) who broke the deadlock following an excellent through ball from Jashari. At the end of the first period, OHL tried to react via Ikwuemesi and N’Dri but Jackers was attentive and kept zero for the Blauw & Zwart.
After the break, Bruges regained control and quickly tested Leysen. Eventually, Christos Tzolis (68th) did it again on a decisive pass from Skov Olsen and scored twice which sent the Club to the next round.
OHL pushed to find the fault, but lacked too much efficiency. Finally, Bruges obtained a penalty via VAR for a foul by Kurucay on Tzolis. Score (86th) transformed. Bruges did not miss its first meeting of the year and will meet Genk for a place in the final.
