Asus unveils a brand new laptop PC. It’s a real featherweight, it goes under the one kilogram mark.
An ultra-thin and ultra-light PC that does not compromise on its connectivity or cooling, this is Asus’ promise at this CES 2025 with the Zenbook A14. Squint your eyes a little, and you could almost read Zenbook AIR. This choice is not trivial, Asus has just made its rival Apple look really old.
Less than a kilogram
We were able to take charge of this new Asus PC and the experience was quite impressive. When you pick it up for the first time, you almost think you have a dummy demonstration copy in your hands because it is so light. And yet no, it is indeed a perfectly functional copy of this Zenbook 14.
980 grams on the scale and 1.59 cm thick at its thickest point, it’s almost a third less than Apple’s MacBook Air, and it shows. I use a MacBook Air M2 for work and the weight difference is palpable.
However, Asus seems to make very few compromises on the exterior. First of all, the chassis exudes quality thanks to the Ceraluminum alloy which the brand has made its specialty in 2024.
Above all, we find fairly complete connectivity for a machine of this type: two USB-C USB4 ports (one on each side), a USB Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and even an HDMI 2.1 port and a jack 3 port, 5mm.
Asus obliges, the screen is of course Oled type, with a definition of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It is overlooked by a Full HD camera compatible with Windows Hello.
Whether it is the material used, its weight, the choice of an Oled screen borderless or the richer connectivity, this Zenbook 14 suddenly makes the design of Apple’s MacBook Air outdated.
Snapdragon… for now
This first version of the new Zenbook 14 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X chip or a Snapdragon X Elite chip. We are therefore faced with an ARM PC running Windows. The chip will be supported by up to 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD.
However, with its two-fan cooling system and a TDP announced at 45W, the ZenBook 14 is perfectly equipped to be compatible with AMD or Intel solutions.
Asus has nothing to announce at the moment on this front, and was probably in partnership with Qualcomm on the design of this product.
We can imagine without flinching the announcement of an AMD version later, why not at Computex 2025. Because for the moment, the main obstacle to the attractiveness of the Zenbook 14 will perhaps be its Qualcomm chip.
A feather price?
Without going to lower the bill too much – we are still facing a Zenbook – Asus seems to be making an effort on the price of its PC.
The Zenbook 14 (UX3407) is announced from 999 euros for launch in France in February.
