OnePlus fans in the UK and EU will receive the OnePlus 13R in a different box than the rest of the world. This box is much smaller, which is explained by the absence of a charger in the box, a decision influenced by new regulations from the European Commission.
There are less than 24 hours left until the OnePlus Winter event where the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R will be revealed. The former was already launched in China in late 2024, but has just received a global release, while the OnePlus 13R is a global version of the phone sold as the OnePlus Ace 5 in China, with a few differences. Still, there are already a handful of videos on the internet showing off the two phones ahead of their release tomorrow, and one of those videos revealed an important detail.
The video is an unboxing of the OnePlus 13R which was posted on X by YouTuber Safwan AhmedMia aka SuperSaf. In the video, the OnePlus 13R is shown in a familiar red box that OnePlus has been shipping some of its smartphones in for some time. However, what is interesting is that the box is quite thin, which suggests the absence of an important accessory in the box.
Opening the box reveals that the OnePlus 13R does not come with a charger, but a USB-C to USB-A cable is included. The absence of a charger in the box is explained by the fact that the European Commission allows the sale of new electronic devices without a charger in order to reduce electronic waste. Although the UK is not part of the EU, it appears that it has also adopted some of these regulations.
The OnePlus UK site also confirms that the phone will not come with a charger, as the pre-order page shows the symbol indicating that a charger is not included with the device. Fortunately, this won’t be the case in all parts of the world, as unboxing videos from India and North America show that the OnePlus 13R comes in a larger box with a charger.
In the UK and European Union, the OnePlus 13 likely won’t ship with a charger in the box.
