At the François-Le-Bail Nature Reserve on the island of Groix, 2025 takes flight among the birds. Monday January 6, Pauline Le Hyaric went to the CM1-CM2 class of the public school to lead the second session of “Educational marine area”. This national system, conducted for the fifth year, aims to be as democratic as possible. “It is the students who choose a natural space in which to understand the mechanisms, and this year, it is birds in the broad sense that will be studied,” explains Pauline.

Official count of garden birds on January 25 and 26

At the same time, on January 25 and 26, everyone will be able to participate in the official count of garden birds, orchestrated by Bretagne Vivante and Géoca. It involves observing, for an hour, the different species that will come and settle in a defined natural space. To support the public, Pauline and Léa offer a “Discovery of birds” workshop. An indoor quiz followed by a little fieldwork to become an apprentice ornithologist for a day. The meeting is Wednesday January 15 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Saturday January 11 and Sunday January 12, the international event, Wetlands, invites you to count waterbirds. “That is to say, birds whose way of life is linked to the marine environment. January being the month when there is the most stability for migratory birds.”

This year, Mélane will join the team at the beginning of March for a 6-month internship. Its missions: to study the impact of climate change “to no longer conserve spaces but to create management measures to adapt to them”, specifies Léa Trifault, the conservator of the Reserve. This is part of the Natur’ Adapt’ program since Groix is one of the pilot sites. “The idea is not to manage a site in self-sufficiency but to see how things are going around it in order to work together on a heritage that is moving. »
