Jean-Marie Le Pen died this Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the age of 96. The announcement of his disappearance was made by his family to AFP. His daughter, Marine Le Pen, who was traveling to Mayotte, learned of her father’s death on the plane. According to information from BFMTV journalist Sophie Dupont, who follows the politician’s trip overseas, explained that the news broke during a technical stopover in Nairobi, Kenya. At that moment, all the journalists on the plane turned their phones back on and saw the AFP alert. They quickly asked for confirmation from Marine Le Pen’s press secretary. The latter then took Jean-Marie Le Pen’s daughter aside to tell her the bad news. The founder of the National Front and Marine Le Pen have long had a very complicated relationship.
Marine Le Pen then isolated herself at the front of the plane to make phone calls. The BFMTV journalist assumes that she called her family to confirm the bad news and also to speak with her loved ones. In addition, Sophie Dupont revealed that the politician is not alone. After returning to her seat, she found herself with Louis Aliot, her former companion, and one of her collaborators present during the trip to Mayotte. At 1:25 p.m., the plane had not yet taken off and it is due to land in Paris at 11 p.m. this evening. We will surely have to wait until this evening or tomorrow to have a statement from Marine Le Pen on the disappearance of her father.
