NVIDIA sells dreams or window dressing?

Like every year, the NVIDIA conference stands out as one of the most impactful events at CES. The manufacturer took advantage of the 2025 edition of the Las Vegas show to present its new range of graphics cards. The jump in power seems ever more significant from year to year and the RTX 5000 series are no exception to the rule. The presentation did not hesitate to emphasize two major arguments: unrivaled performance at an ever more affordable price. These great promises have not failed to put stars in the eyes of the most demanding gamers, but it is better to avoid getting carried away too quickly.

Mind-blowing figures

The RTX 5000 series will enter the market at the end of the month and mark the introduction of DLSS 4. The latest version of NVIDIA supersampling will feature AI frame generation to reach new heights of fluidity. The manufacturer took its most powerful card – the RTX 5090 – as an example to test this new feature. On Cyberpunk 2077activation on DLSS 4 allows you to reach a framerate of up to 240 images per second in maximum graphics quality (4K resolution and raytracing). If this feat is surprising, the comparison without DLSS is worrying to say the least.

How can we explain that a latest generation graphics card is still incapable of reaching 30FPS on a 2020 game, without additional software help? We will therefore have to wait for the launch of these GPUs and the first waves of testing in order to judge the impact of this new generation. Especially since NVIDIA touts the power of its RTX 5070 as equivalent to that of the RTX 4090, for a price more than half the price. If the manufacturer manages to keep its promises, we will have one of the best price/power ratios in the industry.

A really respected price range?

The RTX 5090 and 5080 will be marketed by NVIDIA from January 30 at respective prices of €2,349 and €1,179. You will have to wait until February at a date still unknown to get your hands on the RTX 5070ti and 5070, billed at €884 and €649. Power worthy of the RTX 4090 for less than €700 promises to be a giant step forward for the accessibility of PC gaming, but this price range must still be respected by third-party manufacturers.

In fact, these are only the recommended prices announced by the manufacturer, which will be applied to First Edition GPUs on limited sale on the official website. The RTX 5070 from ASUS, Gigabyte or even MSI will certainly exceed 700 or even 800€, justified by tiny gains in power or a few LEDs. Be careful of the general euphoria following the announcement of the prices. Although the RTX 5000 series promises a major breakthrough for the industry, the marketing of these GPUs will be nothing different.
