Bettors on the federally authorized betting platform Kalshi predicted a 21% probability that Donald Trump repurchases Greenland, amid controversy over the president-elect’s controversial attempt to acquire the Danish autonomous region.
What happened : A new deal titled “Will Trump buy Greenland?” was released on December 21, and the odds in favor of the possibility stood at 21% at present. They reached a record level of 23.5% on January 5.
The market will see the resolution as “yes” if the United States purchases at least part of Greenland from Denmark before January 20, 2029, the contract said. As of this writing, approximately $123,301 has been put up for bid.
A similar bet was offered on the prediction platform Polymarket based on CRO (CRYPTO: POL), with odds favoring 4%, although these are considerably lower numbers. More than $177,000 was staked on this bet.
It should be noted that Polymarket is not available to US residents due to certain regulatory formalities.

Why it matters : The betting market is growing amid Donald Trump’s new interest in acquiring Arctic territory.
Donald Trump Jr.Trump’s eldest son, is expected to visit Greenland on Tuesday, according to a Reuters report.
Greenland is of strategic importance to the United States because it is located on the fastest route between North America and Europe and has considerable mineral deposits.
However, the Prime Minister of Greenland, Mute Egededeclared in response to Donald Trump’s proposal: “We are not for sale”.
