Submitted on waivers by the Los Angeles Kings, forward Arthur Kaliyev was claimed Monday by the New York Rangers.
The maverick thus obtains an opportunity to relaunch his career elsewhere, having wanted a change of scenery for some time.
The Rangers were seventh in the order of priority to claim Kaliyev. It is therefore impossible to know whether CH or another team better positioned in the general ranking of the National Hockey League tried its luck.
Kaliyev suffered an injury at Kings training camp and has not played a game in the National Hockey League (NHL) this season. He has just completed a five-game conditioning stint with the Ontario Reign in the American League, recording a goal and an assist.
The Rangers needed an electric shock. In the midst of a crisis, the New York team has suffered 16 defeats in its last 22 games and finds itself out of the playoff picture, in seventh and penultimate place in the Metropolitan section.
Even though he never really took off in the NHL, Kaliyev is recognized for his scoring talents, having accumulated 102 points, including 51 goals, in 67 games the year he was drafted into the NHL. Ontario (OHL) with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
He was selected at the start of the second round, 33rd overall, by the Kings in 2019, despite lingering doubts surrounding his commitment and his skating.
