The deadly game of “gaining ground” is intensifying on the front as the inauguration of Donald Trump in the United States approaches and therefore probable peace negotiations. Russia claimed Monday the capture of the mining town of Kurakhové, in eastern Ukraine, after a battle of nearly three months, believing that its conquest will allow it to achieve full control of the Donetsk region “at an accelerated pace. Russian troops “have completely liberated the town of Kurakhové, the largest population center in the southwest of Donbass,” the Russian Defense Ministry announced in the morning. This industrial city, which had around 22,000 inhabitants before the conflict, was a leading defensive position for the Ukrainian military. It is also located near a deposit of lithium, a rare mineral.
