A violent fire broke out on January 5, 2025 at 6:45 a.m. in a plastic pellet production factory, located in Tha Sao subdistrict, Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon province. Thanks to the rapid intervention of firefighters, the flames were brought under control, preventing their spread, but the material damage was significant.
More than 15 fire trucks, from Tha Sao and surrounding areas, were deployed.
Due to the configuration of the area, which is home to many recycled plastic warehouses, a coordinated response was necessary to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings. It took almost an hour to contain the fire, after which firefighters continued to hose down the area to prevent any risk of the fire resuming.
According to a security guard on site, workers were present in the factory when the fire broke out. Despite their attempts to put out the flames with fire extinguishers, the speed of the spread forced them to urgently evacuate. The alert was given and the firefighters quickly intervened.
The affected factory, a one-story warehouse of approximately 1,600 m², was used to store recycled plastic intended for the production of pellets. Fortunately, the workers present were able to escape without injury. The building was completely destroyed, and two neighboring factories also suffered partial damage.
A preliminary inspection revealed no casualties, neither injured nor dead. The investigation is underway to determine the causes of the fire and precisely assess the extent of the damage. Initial estimates put material losses at at least 10 million baht (around 270,000 euros).
Local authorities have set up an air quality monitoring system, concerned about the potential environmental consequences of the incident.
