Lyon. One dead, shooters on the run… What we know about the KFC parking lot shooting

It was around 4 p.m. this Sunday, January 5, 2025 when shots rang out in the parking lot of a KFC fast-food restaurant in Vénissieux located in the Moulin-à-Vent commercial area between the 8th arrondissement of Lyon and the ring road. The tranquility of the customers seated in the restaurant is disturbed in the middle of the afternoon.

Gunshots in the parking lot in broad daylight

The drama unfolded in front of several witnesses who were in this parking lot where there is also a hotel, two other restaurants and a Norauto garage. The shots hit two victimsmen aged around twenty.

According to a police source consulted by news Lyonboth men were seriously injured and their vital prognoses were in jeopardy when help arrived on the scene. The police discovered two individuals on the ground near a car.

One victim died in hospital

One was seriously injured in the head and thorax and the second in the side. The two victims were treated at the Edouard Herriot hospital while they were “unconscious”, according to the same source.

One of the victims, aged 25, died in hospital during the night from Sunday to Monday around 3 a.m., the other remains between life and death. The toll could still rise.

“One of the two victims died during the night,” the Lyon prosecutor’s office confirmed to news Lyon this Monday. “The investigations are now continuing under the qualifications of organized gang murder and attempted organized gang murderin order to enable the perpetrators of these acts to be identified and the circumstances and motives behind this act to be determined.”

Well-known victims of the police

According to AFP, the two men shot were “well known” to the police.

The two victims are aged 25, one lives in Vénissieux, the other in Saint-Fons.

Targeted by shots when they got out of the car

According to our information, video surveillance in the area established that the two young people were targeted by gunfire when they got out of their car in the KFC parking lot. The shooters got directly back into a Renault Clio and immediately fled.

Three shell casings and two 7.65 caliber cases were seized at the scene during extensive surveys carried out throughout the evening in the perimeter of the shooting.

The Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS) of the Rhône judicial police is in charge of the investigation.

Several witnesses have already been interviewed by the police. The suspects are actively being sought.

Recent shooting in Vénissieux

The fatal shooting comes in a context where other similar events have taken place in recent days in Vénissieux. Two men were slightly injured by firearms on Sunday December 29 around 10 p.m. near a point of sale of narcotics, near the T4 Darnaise tram stop in the district of Minguettes.

The police were able to arrest three suspects shortly after the incident. According to our information, the trio is suspected of other settling of scores that have occurred in recent months in the Lyon metropolis.

Other shootings also broke out on the M7 and in Villeurbanne in the Tonkin district, the scene of significant drug trafficking.
