A Saint-Jean man has been charged with the 2nd degree murder of his wife following an investigation by the Saint-Jean Police Major Crimes Unit.

Diego Osorio, aged 26, is suspected by the authorities of being behind the death of a young woman found on Christmas Eve in the west of the port city.

Nicsy Arboleda Rodriguez, a 30-year-old Saint John resident, was found on the ground seriously injured early in the morning of December 24 on Lancaster Avenue.

The woman was subsequently transported to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The individual was taken into custody on January 2 and appeared the next day in Court of King’s Bench, in Saint-Jean, to face a charge of murder.

The accused remains detained pending a next court appearance scheduled for later this month.

In the days following the tragedy, Diego Osorio orchestrated a crowdfunding campaign aimed at helping the family repatriate the victim’s remains to Colombia.

Donations made on the GoFundMe platform then made it possible to raise a sum of just over $5,000.

The crowdfunding campaign has since disappeared from the website.

Another campaign has since been launched on GoFundMe by a friend of the victim who lives in the United States, although it was not initially very successful.
