Israel confirmed, on Saturday January 4, the resumption of negotiations with Hamas in Qatar to work for the release of hostages and a truce in Gaza. A decision which comes with the publication of a video of a hostage broadcast by Hamas.

A 19-year-old girl holding her head in her hands in tears. She has been hostage in Gaza for 456 days. Hamas released its video, proof of Liri Albag’s life. She seems physically and mentally exhausted. “This video was very hard to watch. This is not the Liri we know. We have to make a deal, really”declares his father.

Talks moving slowly

This video is broadcast while negotiations are underway between Israel and Hamas in Doha (Qatar). In the streets of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, thousands of demonstrators are begging the government to reach an agreement. All chant, “a deal now”brandishing the portraits of 96 hostages still held in Gaza. Many accuse Benjamin Netanyahu of not doing enough.

Talks have therefore resumed in Qatar after a week’s break. According to senior officials, the negotiations are moving very slowly. There would be several blocking points.
