Pierre Ekwah appeared on DAZN in the post-match. The AS Saint-Étienne midfielder spoke at length about the meeting but also about his new coach and what the latter has brought to the group in a very short time.
Pierre Ekwah: “We started in the best way. We conceded a small goal which spoiled the party a little but it was the best way, with a lot of offensive intentions and a lot of action and intensity on our part. The coach came with intentions, we worked on them during the break and we were able to implement them in this match. We simply have to implement them every weekend. midfielders, attackers especially too, defenders, of everyone.
The coach? He goes all out during every workout. He lives the match with you, he lives the training with you. The face you put on in training, he will experience it with you. He lives everything with us, it’s cool, we see ourselves in that too. As he puts a lot of intensity into his words and actions, we want to do the same thing on the pitch. We had to question ourselves and welcome it with open ears. He came with his ideas, his character because he has a big character. We’re going to our side where it’s not the right side. He’s like that, he made sure to transcribe it for us and we took it with joy.
We can play like we did against Reims, we did it very well with quick attacks, or with placed attacks. What he also wants above all, is what he told us when he arrived, is to move quickly forward to get into the opponent’s half of the field to be able, either, to go directly towards the goal, or keep the ball as we did today.
For my part, I try to regulate everyone. To give the ball to my midfielders, whether they make the play or to my attackers so that they can attack. I try to regulate the environment in the best possible way. For the moment, the coach told me to stay inside the game and make the play. I did it well against Reims for the good of the team.”
