Predictions

This Sunday, January 5, the 22-year-old Danish Clara Tauson faces the 27-year-old Japanese Naomi Osaka in the final of the tournament in Auckland, New Zealand. Clara Tauson had not had two consecutive victories since October and her participation in the Osaka tournament where she was quarter-finalist against Diane Parry, 63rd in the world. In this Auckland tournament, she started her season very well since she beat qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini in 2 sets, before coming back to score against Sofia Kenin, 81st in the world. The number 5 seed then won his other 2 matches in 2 sets against Madison Keys, 21st in the world and Robin Montgomery, 117th in the world.

For her part, Naomi Osaka won her first 3 rounds during her last tournament of the 2024 season, during the WTA in Beijing and finally gave up during the round of 16 against world number 3 Cori Gauff when they had each won a set. But this injury which had prevented her from continuing the match no longer seems to be an obstacle since the Japanese has come back in force this year. She has in fact lost only one set out of her 4 victories won here against Lina Glushko, Julia Grabher, Hailey Baptiste and Alycia Parks.
