Sara Hector dominated the proceedings in the first round of the giant Kranjska Gora, leaving all her rivals more than a second behind. Lara Gut-Behrami, 5th and best Swiss, dropped 1”72.
In search of a seventh World Cup victory, Sara Hector set the best time in the four sectors to beat her runner-up, Albanian Lara Colturi, by 1”13. Starting with bib 1 and beaten by 1”19 by the Swede, the Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund completes the provisional podium.
Lara Gut-Behrami is therefore more than half a second from the top 3, without having made a big mistake. The overall leader, Camille Rast from Valais, managed the 15th time, 2”34 behind Sara Hector, being far too cautious.
On the Swiss side, the pleasant surprise came from Wendy Holdener, 10th, certainly 1”93 from the lead. Michelle Gisin, who had given up the Semmering races to recharge her batteries, also qualified for the second round (from 12:30 p.m.) with the 23rd fastest time and losing 3”16.
Several big names failed outside the top 30, like Valérie Grenier (38th) and Marta Bassino (42nd). The Valaisanne Delphine Darbellay (57th) suffered the same fate for her second individual start in the World Cup.
