Sara Hector signed her seventh World Cup victory by winning the giant Kranjska Gora. The Swede thus takes the lead overall as well as that of the discipline ranking. Best Swiss on Saturday, Lara Gut-Behrami finished 6th, while Camille Rast placed 8th.
Largely in the lead after the first course (1”13 ahead of Lara Colturi), Sara Hector mastered her subject perfectly in the second round to win with a margin of 1”42 over the young Albanian (18 years old) . The Swede had already experienced the joys of victory at the end of November in Killington, already as a giant.
The podium is completed by Alice Robinson, who dropped 1”52 in the end. Fifth in the morning, Lara Gut-Behrami was therefore unable to take advantage of a second course set out for her by her trainer and father, Pauli Gut. The Ticino, who conceded 2”11 on Sara Hector, nevertheless obtained her best result of the winter in giant.
Rast from 15th to 8th rank
Now ex-leader of the general classification, Camille Rast showed a more conquering face in second than in the second round on the Slovenian snow. The Valaisanne grabbed seven places to finish 8th (at 2”67), returning to the top 10 in a big way after her disappointing 17th place in Semmering.
Wendy Holdener, a convincing 10th on a very turning first course, however did not confirm on the second route. The Schwyzoise fell to 18th place in the final, nevertheless signing her second top 20 of the winter in the discipline.
Fourth and last Swiss qualified for this second, Michelle Gisin could not do better than 26th. The Obwalden, who took a break between Christmas and New Year and skipped the Semmering races, is still looking for a first top 15 in a technical discipline this winter.
