As a symbol, the ranking of the best-selling vehicles in 2024 closely resembles that of the best-selling manufacturers. As in the latter, Renault is in the lead ahead of Peugeot and Dacia.
Le Losange sold 91,435 copies of its Clio V, or 5.3% market share. A figure which suggests at least as resounding a commercial success for the Clio 6, expected in the months to come. Peugeot’s 208 follows closely (88,918 sales), ahead of the Dacia Sandero (75,978).
You have to hang on to get off the podium and fall to fourth place occupied by the 2008 from Peugeot, almost half as many sales as the Clio V (48,547). The flagship brand of Stellantis in France places a third model in the top 10 sales with the seventh place of the 308 (37,254). The group can also boast good sales of the Citroën C3, sixth in the “box-office” with its 38,834 registrations.
The rest of the top 10 is completed by the Renault Captur (5th, 45,961) or the Toyota Yaris (8th, 35,065) and Yaris Cros (9th, 33,810), whose commercial successes allowed the Japanese manufacturer to place as the third manufacturer in terms of sales in France, ahead of Citroën and Volkswagen.
Tesla dominates electric, but watch out for Renault
Finally, it is worth noting the 10th place of the Tesla Model Y, which won in its own championship: that of 100% electric. If EV sales fell by 2.2% in 2024, the Californian firm’s model had a good year and clearly established itself as the benchmark with its 28,577 units.
Behind, the Peugeot e-208 (23,602) and the Renault Mégane E-Tech (16,800) complete the podium, according to data from AAA Data. We must also highlight the good performance of the Fiat 500e, which finished at the foot of the podium with 14,695 sales. However, this is a doom and gloom as Stellantis announced the cessation of its production after having already paused it in December due to lack of demand.
In the rest of the ranking, where the Tesla Model 3 (11,613) and the Renault Twingo E-Tech (11,299) occupy 5th and 6th place, it is the breakthrough of the new Renault 5 which catches the eye. The Losange electric city car has already come close to 10,000 registrations after just a few weeks on the market. Its 7th place is a good sign for 2025, its first full year at the end of which it risks moving much higher in the ranking.
