Yesterday, at training, David Savard left for the locker room before the end of the session. We didn’t really know what was going on, so we kept an eye on the news of the day.
The club did not train, but the extras skated… and the CH took the opportunity to provide an update.
In the case of Savard, his participation in tonight’s game against the Blackhawks will be decided just before the game. He’ll try, but if he can’t play, Jayden Struble will replace him.
Obviously, the club hopes that the veteran will be able to play. He’s a big part of the team’s squad, and he eats up a lot of minutes on his team’s blue line.
And above all, he is, with Alexandre Carrier, one of the only two right-handed defenders in town. Mike Matheson also plays on the right, but he is left-handed.
This therefore means that in a world where Savard must be absent, the CH would rely on five left-handers in its brigade. It’s fortunate that his only right-hander is Carrier, who is capable of playing big minutes, and not Justin Barron, who isn’t exactly as reliable.
Let us also remember that Struble has not played since December 12, three weeks. How rusty is he right now?
It’s Samuel Montembeault who will be in front of the Canadian’s net this evening. We can think that Jakub Dobes will be there tomorrow.
