The shock of the elimination, Thursday evening, of Junior Team Canada at the World Championship was still perceptible among many hockey fans.
Imagine the coaching staff…
Listen to assistant coach Sylvain Favreau on Louis Jean’s microphone, at Sports Amateurs.
“At the risk of repeating myself… The mayonnaise didn’t set. It’s not for lack of commitment or trying. I think at times, in certain matches, we didn’t have the chance to score as many goals as we thought. We look at certain players who lead their respective leagues, not only in points, but in goals,” he said.
“Then there was a fuel shortage during the world championship. We liked our performance at 5 against 5, except that we didn’t score any goals. From that moment on, it becomes difficult to win matches, especially against teams that are tough.”
And Favreau is not going to blame the young people.
“These are young people aged 17 to 19 who all gave their body and soul on the ice. Could the execution have been better? Absolutely. Could the effort for some have been better? Absolutely. But it was young people who gave everything. And then, we are the first to want to win and have the gold medal. That’s the ultimate goal, actually. Every year, Team Canada Junior has only one goal: the gold medal.”
