This Friday morning, on the roads of Pontarlier in Franche-Comté, you had to be equipped. A motorist, who is not from the area, was surprised by the snow and found himself stranded in front of our camera.

The most experienced have their tricks. “This morning, I was lucky enough to catch a snow plow, actually. He was super nice. He did this for us with his colleague in an hour”explains a trader. He got up at 7:30 a.m. to clear the entrance to his shop.

Residents should indeed have no difficulty reaching the shops in the city center. Traffic is rather fluid on the roads of Haut-Doubs. 17 centimeters of fresh snow fell here last night. But the tracks were quickly cleared of snow and salted. “There, the job this morning is to clear the tracks. Scrape the parking lots, try to remove as much ice as possible. It started around 3:30 a.m. when the first ones were called. And there, about 3/4 of the roads have been cleared. All that really remains are dead ends.explains the driver of a snowplow.

Enough to also relieve workers like Xavier. “I'm shoveling snow from the car because there's a ton of frost. Right after, I go to work. I start at half past twelve. So, we're getting a head start”he tells us.

A particularly harsh winter for the inhabitants of Haut-Doux. 50 centimeters have already fallen last week. “We had lost the habit a little all these winters. We didn't hurt our arms very much. So, it's a little hard this year. But it's been 2-3 years since we've seen so much so much snow”recognizes a resident. Next night, temperatures could reach as low as minus 20 degrees. Caution is required.
