The Chailluz forest, on the outskirts of Besançon, still bears the scars of the violent storms which broke out on the night of July 20 to 21 in Doubs. A storm with winds of more than 100 km/h swept the area, impacting nearly 5,000 m3 of wood (oak, beech, hornbeam, ash and maple), recalls the City of Besançon in a press release, this Thursday, January 2, 2025. This observation imposed the temporary closure of the most affected sector and security work. “Since last August, 2,366 trees have been treated (i.e. 85% of the area to be treated), and 1,300 tonnes of small wood have been harvested and delivered to factories,” explains the City of Besançon.
Controls and verbalizations
“This progress is notable, but the dangers linked to falling trees and branches are still present. And despite communication and a “barrier” on site, walkers still enter this sector, slowing down the felling and shaping work of the loggers. Thus, faced with non-compliance with the entry ban, the municipal police and agents of the National Forestry Office (ONF) will increase their patrols and if necessary, will issue fines. »
Part of the accessible forest
The City of Besançon reminds that three quarters of the Chailluz forest remain accessible to users, i.e. 1,350 hectares of secure perimeter. “While waiting for the reopening of the forest scheduled for March 15, walkers are invited to discover lesser-known and equally pleasant areas: Fontaine des Acacias, former Saint-Jean Gulf chapel…”.
