Since the end of the morning, the Arles central house has been the scene of a worrying hostage taking. The penal establishment, located in the northern industrial zone of the city, a few kilometers from the center, is facing a crisis situation.
According to initial information relayed by La Provence, an inmate took three members of medical staff hostage as well as a prison guard. The man was allegedly armed with a homemade bladed weapon and threatened the hostages.
The Raid was activated to intervene quickly and restore the situation. Furthermore, the Regional Intervention and Security Team (ERIS) is already on site.
The central house in Arles, built in the early 1990s, currently has 159 places and accommodates 137 prisoners, mainly those sentenced to long sentences. This establishment avoids prison overcrowding, with an occupancy rate of 85%.
