The story of 10-year-old Sara Sharif shocked the United Kingdom. After years of unbearable abuse, the little girl died in August 2023. Her father and stepmother were sentenced to life in prison.

Urfan Sharif, recently sentenced to life in prison in London for torturing and killing his daughter Sara, was attacked by two inmates at Belmarsh prison, British daily The Sun reported on Friday.

The two men attacked Urfan Sharif, 43, on January 1 with the sharp lid of a can of tuna, cutting him in the face and neck, the tabloid said.

Unbearable abuse

Sara, a 10-year-old Anglo-Pakistani girl, was beaten to death in August 2023 after years of mistreatment, the details of which, revealed at the trial, shocked the British.

London police have confirmed they are investigating the attack on a “43-year-old prisoner, whose injuries are not life-threatening” at Belmarsh high security prison, south-east of London. A prison administration spokesperson also confirmed the attack on a prisoner without identifying him.

The father and stepmother of Sara Sharif, Beinash Batool, aged 30, were sentenced in mid-December to life in prison in London for the murder of the little girl.

The trial of these torturers shocked the United Kingdom, both because of the violence inflicted on Sara and because of the missed opportunities that could have saved her.

“It is not an exaggeration to describe what the little girl endured as torture,” the judge declared, recalling one by one the unbearable abuse inflicted on her.

Sara was treated “like she was worthless”

His autopsy revealed around a hundred injuries including head trauma, multiple fractures, bruises and scars, burn marks and human bite marks.

Head trapped in a hood made of plastic bag, feet tied up, burns with an iron or boiling water, blows with a cricket bat or with the metal leg of a high chair, nothing was spared.

In a press release published after the convictions, the prosecution indicated that the harsh sentences reflected “the cruelty and seriousness of the crimes committed”.

Sara was treated “like she was worthless.” More than the other children in the house, she suffered this violence “because she was a girl”, born to another mother, underlined the judge who paid tribute to “a courageous little girl with a beautiful personality” who loved to sing and dance.

Sara’s uncle Faisal Malik, 29, who lived with the couple in Woking, southwest London, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for “causing or making possible her death”.
