The first days of January are expected to be disrupted according to Météo France, with rain, ice and snow.
The first days of 2025 in the cold. At the beginning of January, winter conditions are setting in in France, bringing rain, even snow and ice in certain regions. Unsettled weather to start this new year, 2024 having been one of the rainiest ever observed in France.
The sun should not shine much more at the beginning of January, with the return of snow in several regions and in particular in the Vosges, the central massif and the Alps, with a high risk of avalanches.
• Snow, ice and falling temperatures Friday
For this Friday, January 3, a large northeast quarter is placed on yellow alert for snow and ice. Three departments of the Alps are on yellow avalanche alert. According to Météo France forecasts, the sun should still shine over part of France, with the exception of the southwest quarter, where rain will dominate all day.
In terms of temperatures, count from 1°C in the North in Belfort to 6°C for the maximum in Brest. In the south, the mercury will rise to 14°C in Nice or Perpignan, with minimums displayed at 4°C in Lyon.
• A gray Saturday in the North, mild in the South
For the weekend, the weather promises to be disrupted according to Météo France forecasts, with gray weather over almost the entire country. On Saturday, only a small south-eastern quarter of France will be spared with rising temperatures, up to 15°C are expected in Corsica, 14 in Marseille or 13 in Nice.
In the North, the mercury will not display more than 4°C in Nantes or Brest, 3°C in Paris and 1°C in Alençon or Amiens.
• Temperatures rising on Sunday
On Sunday, the country will again be divided in two with rain in the North and clearings in the South. Temperatures will rise above seasonal norms throughout the country, with up to 16°C expected on the Basque coast or in Corsica for the southern part and 13°C in Brest or Bourges for the North. Allow 10°C in Lille and Montélimar, 11°C in Paris, as in Montpellier or 12°C in Nantes and Cherbourg.
The wind will also be present for these first days of January with gusts of up to 80 km/h expected on Sunday in Brittany, 75 km/h on the Normandy coasts and 60 km/h in Paris, Lille or La Rochelle.
