Idan Amedi sings for children affected by grief

Singer and actor Idan Amedi, who was seriously injured in Gaza while carrying out reserve duty there last year, performed before hundreds of grieving children in southern Israel during a winter camp that was organized for Hanukkah.

Idan Amedi arrived by helicopter at the three-day camp that was set up by One Family at Kibbutz Revivim in the Negev, surprising the 400 campers aged 8 to 18 – these young children all have in common that they have lost a parent, brother or sister during a terrorist attack or war.

Amedi, 35, who starred in “Fauda,” became a hero of the Gaza war after he was seriously injured in an explosion on January 8 – an incident that also claimed the lives of six members of his unit military.

The singer recently released his first single since his recovery – a track called “Superman” which was dedicated to the memory of his friends Alexei, Akiva, Gavriel and Eliran, who were killed in the coastal enclave.

With this surprise concert, it is the first time that Amedi has returned to the stage since he was injured.

Amedi also lit Hanukkah candles and agreed to a photo session with young campers, delighted with the windfall. He told them about his recovery over the past twelve months.

Amedi’s hour-long visit – it was the last night at camp – was an emotional highlight, according to One Family founder and president Marc Belzberg.

“By sharing their story and listening to someone who has endured so much, these young people felt truly seen and supported; Amedi has been a source of inspiration for them in their own journey to healing,” he commented.

Singer and actor Idan Amedi, injured while serving as a reservist in Gaza, performs at the One Family camp for Hanukkah in front of grieving children on December 30, 2024. The banner says: “Idan, you are a king, we are proud of you, you are a hero”. (Authorisation)

The last evening of camp is traditionally an opportunity for participants to openly share stories about their loved ones if they wish – and it is considered the most intimate and intense time for all these young people.
