The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday January 2 in the common cellars of an HLM building located at 4, rue Lavoisier, in Segré. The firefighters started the intervention at 7:10 a.m. They used two hoses to contain the fire and prevent the flames from reaching the homes. No smoke spread to the floors. Eleven people were evacuated from the building. No casualties have been reported.
Gillian Leclair, the tenant of the ground floor apartment, located above the cellars, was in the apartment with her two children aged 12 and 5. She and her 5-year-old son were sent to hospital for discomfort due to the fumes. In total, six people were transported by firefighters to hospital for examinations: four to Château-Gontier and two to Angers.
Six tenants to be relocated
Under the command of Lieutenant Pascal Guineheux, head of the Araize center, 28 firefighters from the Araize, Segré, Le Lion-d'Angers, Combrée, Vern-d'Anjou, Pouancé and Angers centers were mobilized with six vehicles. Lieutenant Le Gourierec, commander of the Segré-en-Anjou-Bleu brigade community, was on site with gendarmes. An investigation is open to determine the origin of this disaster.
A meeting was organized at the town hall by Bruno Chauvin, deputy mayor of Segré and officials from the social landlord Maine-et-Loire-Habitat, owner of this collective building, to find a temporary rehousing solution for six tenants of the building . The building was completely rehabilitated in 2021.
