The day after the attack, the toll rose: 15 dead and around thirty injured.

According to a still provisional report, 15 people were killed and around thirty injured, after being hit by a pick-up truck traveling at full speed, or under the bullets of the assailant who opened fire on the crowd, who had come to celebrate the new year’s eve.

The FBI identified Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old American veteran from Texas, as the alleged perpetrator. An ISIS flag was found in his car, and videos of him pledging allegiance to Daesh on the day of the tragedy were identified by American authorities on the internet. Police also discovered weapons and pipe bombs hidden in coolers in the vehicle, as well as explosive devices elsewhere in the French Quarter of New .

If he was killed on the spot, it is likely that he did not act alone, according to American authorities who are looking for accomplices.
