At 7 a.m., Sunday December 29, 2024, the alarm at the Gifi store in Pacé, near Rennes, went off. Informed by the surveillance company, a police patrol was dispatched to the site.
When they arrived on the scene, the three soldiers came face to face with a gloved and hooded man with a crowbar whom they quickly apprehended. Inside the business, in the management office, the gendarmes arrested another man, a cousin of the first. With a deafening noise, this 46-year-old man was cutting the safe door with a large grinder. “The two elderly suspects are cousins born in Reunion and residing in Rennes,” the gendarmerie said in a press release addressed to the media.
Procedure for recognition of guilt
One of them was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment, 9 months of which were suspended, during a guilty plea procedure. He received additional sentences including a ban on appearing at the Gifi store and a ban on contacting his cousin and accomplice.
-As for the second individual, victim of illness while in police custody, he should be the subject of a subsequent appearance in court.
