The body of an infant, hidden in a trash bag, was discovered on December 30 in Mably (Loire) by a jogger. The investigation was reclassified as murder of a minor under 15 years old by the Roanne public prosecutor's office.
On December 30, a jogger made a terrifying discovery while running along the Roanne-Digoin canal in Mably. A trash bag containing the lifeless body of a newborn baby had been abandoned on the edge of the greenway.
Alerted, the police quickly secured the premises and began the first investigations, confirms France Info.
According to initial information communicated by the public prosecutor of Roanne, Xavier Laurent, the infant, a boy, was of a size and weight compatible with a full-term birth and did not present any malformation. “The child was born viable,” said the magistrate.
However, the causes and date of his death could not be established by the first autopsy carried out. Additional analyzes were ordered to clarify the circumstances of this tragic death.
An investigation now reclassified as murder
Initially opened for “search for the causes of death”, the investigation was reclassified as “murder of a minor under 15 years of age”. This decision was prompted by the discovery that the body had been hidden in a plastic bag and submerged. Investigators from the interdepartmental directorate of the Loire national police (DIPN42) were responsible for the investigations. They hope to quickly identify the child and determine the circumstances of his death.
The prosecution has launched a call for witnesses to gather information likely to advance the investigation. Citizens can contact the judicial police service at 04 77 93 52 98 or send an email message to [email protected].
