Dong Trieu: Vietnam’s new investment hub

Quang Ninh (VNA) – Since its elevation to city status on November 1, Dong Trieu has established itself as a promising investment destination in northern Vietnam. It thus becomes the fifth city in the province of Quang Ninh, marking a strategic turning point in its development.

Strategic location and reinforced connectivity

Located at the western gate of Quang Ninh, Dong Trieu occupies a central position in the region’s dynamic development triangle and benefits from enhanced connectivity with the Red River Delta. In recent years, the city has placed particular emphasis on infrastructure development, including the completion of key projects such as the Dong and Trieu bridges, as well as a road connecting National Highway No. 18A to neighboring Hai province. Duong.

According to Nguyễn Văn Công, secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, these achievements are the result of the support of the provincial administration, which finances projects connecting Dong Trieu to the Quang Yen economic zone, Uong Bi town, and roads leading to Bac Giang province.
Growing attractiveness for investors

Through its continued investment promotion efforts, Dong Trieu has attracted more than 1 trillion dong (about $39.23 million) in private capital in 2024. Current projects include an industrial waste treatment plant in An Sinh, a golf course in Dong Trieu, a modern residential area in Dam Thuy, a beverage and food production factory and the industrial hub of Trang An.

The city plans to create two industrial centers and two major industrial zones. The Dong Trieu 1 industrial zone, spanning 200 hectares, is currently awaiting approval from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, while 1,200 hectares have been reserved for the future Dong Trieu 2 industrial zone, demonstrating the commitment of the city to develop the industrial sector.

Kim In Woo, director of F-One Foods Sarl, praised the strategic location of Dong Trieu, located just 90 minutes from the port of Hai Phong, and its modern infrastructure. His company, which specializes in processing agricultural products, plans to triple its production capacity by building a new factory in 2025, which will help boost local employment and economic growth.

Vision and recommendations for the future

At the investment promotion conference held on January 1, Associate Professor Trần Đình Thiên, former director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics, highlighted the strengths of Dong Trieu and encouraged the city to work closely with the provincial administration to remove obstacles and promote rapid development.

The vice-president of the provincial People’s Committee, Nghiêm Xuân Cường, for his part insisted on the need for a change of mentality in the management of the city, in order to create the best conditions for the sustainable development of businesses. He also called on relevant departments to continue supporting Dong Trieu in attracting investments and resources for its economic development.

With its strategic location, modern infrastructure and favorable policies, Dong Trieu is well on its way to becoming a major economic engine in northern Vietnam.-VNA
