Matthews, who missed the last five games with an upper-body injury, was placed on injured reserve earlier this week.
“I feel good, I feel better, it feels good to train with the team. We’ll see how it goes over the next few days,” Matthews said Wednesday.
It’s frustrating not to play. I try to absorb everything that’s happening and I’m with the guys a lot. Being able to participate in training is important, especially when you’ve been away for a while.

“I feel better every day. I will continue to train and hope for positive progress and we will see for the rest. »
This is the second time this season Matthews has been sidelined. He missed nine straight games in November with an upper-body injury.
-The 27-year-old American indicated that he aggravated his injury during a game against the Buffalo Sabers on December 20.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said there was no timetable for his star forward’s return to play.
“To see him practice here and participate in a full practice is progress,” Berube said. I talk to him, but I don’t bother him too much. When he is ready to return to the game, he will let us know.
Matthews won the Maurice-Richard Trophy last season, thanks to a tally of 69 goals.
This season, he has 11 goals and 12 assists in 24 games.
