Taken from the collection Extraordinary new stories (translated into French by Charles Baudelaire), it tells the story of prince Prosperowho locks himself in an abbey in order to escape a devastating epidemic called “red death”.
The fable of Mask of the Red Death has already been the subject of several cinematographic adaptations, notably by Roger Corman in 1964, with Vincent Price in the role of the prince. Recently, she was at the heart of The Fall of the House of UsherMike Flanagan’s series inspired by all of Poe’s work.

A new version undertaken by production companies A24 et Picturestart is currently being manufactured, reveals Deadline. The actress Sydney Sweeney, revealed to the general public in the HBO series Euphoria et White Lotusis currently in talks to participate in the project. The direction and writing of the film is entrusted to Charlie Polinger (which is currently refining The Plaguewith Joel Edgerton).
