Météo-France's vigilance is valid for the entire day of Thursday January 2 from midnight to midnight. Rain will cross France throughout the day. The mercury will rise. In Pontarlier for example, where snow fell in quantity at the end of December, it will rain on Thursday afternoon, before the rain turns into snow again. Wind gusts could blow in Pontarlier up to 50 km/h.
Météo France places the Jura department on yellow “rain-flood” alert. the prefecture specifies that the accumulations could be of the order of 20 mm in the plain and 30 mm on the Franche-Comté terrain.
Note that this will be snow that will stick to the ground for a long time above an altitude of 500 meters on the Jura relief, which will clearly limit runoff in this sector.
The disturbance will evacuate towards Switzerland during the night from Thursday to Friday morning.
A strong warm spell is expected from this weekend, to the great regret of snow fans who had been spoiled for Christmas.
