Dani Olmo was no longer on the list of FC Barcelona players eligible to play in La Liga on Wednesday. The Catalan club does not meet the financial conditions for the player to continue participating.
La Liga also axed striker Pau Victor, signed like Dani Olmo by Barca this summer, after the competition’s governing body announced on Tuesday evening that the club had not “presented as an alternative” allowing him “to register players” in accordance with its “economic control regulation”.
Conversely, Danish defender Andreas Christensen, injured during the first part of the season, returned to the Barça squad available to play in La Liga. The debt-ridden Blaugranas had Olmo signed until December 31, 2024 with 80% of Christensen’s salary, thanks to an exception that allows clubs to replace players absent for long periods.
Due to spending limits set by the Spanish football league, Olmo was playing on a temporary basis until Barca resolved their financial problems. With his situation pending, Olmo can theoretically now sign with any other club.
