According to NOLA Ready, cited by Al Jazeera, at least 10 people have been killed and 30 injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd on New Orleans’ Canal and Bourbon Street.
The WGNO revealed that the truck struck pedestrians near the intersection of Bourbon Street and Iberville in New Orleans at approximately 3:15 a.m..

Reacting on the incident, New Orleans police said on Wednesday they were responding to a mass casualty incident, including fatalities. And according to Al Jazeera, NOLA Ready urged people to stay away from the area.
New Orleans Emergency Preparedness Programme indicated in a statement the seriousness of the incident.

“The 8th District is currently working a mass casualty incident involving a vehicle that drove into a large crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street. There are 30 injured patients … and 10 fatalities,” the statement indicated.
The report further stressed Bourbon Street had been blocked off and emergency personnel had been arrived at the scene.

Prior to This statement, CBS News, citing witnesses, reported that a truck had crashed into the crowd at high speed, and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, with police returning fire.
Many videos have been shared online, showing people running away from the scene of the incident towards safety after gunshots ring out, Al Jazeera added.
The incident came amid New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans and hours before the start of the AllState Bowl, a college football quarterfinal held in the city’s Caesars Superdome, with thousands expected to be in attendance.
