It's done, the naturist beach of Cap d'Agde has started the ball rolling. There were almost 600 people who met for the last bath of the year 2024. Water at 10°C was not enough to temper the bathers' enthusiasm. The tradition has continued since 1988 and the craze continues unabated.
The event is traditionally associated with a raffle for the benefit of charitable associations.
This Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Gruissan promises a record, 1,000 bathers could take part in the traditional New Year's dip organized on the famous Chalets beach.
Gilles Pinot, the treasurer of the Gruissan festival committee, announces record attendance. The meeting is set for 11 a.m.
Unlike the naturist beach of Cap d'Agde, disguises have been required here for 4 years now. During the previous edition, between 600 and 700 participated. Papuans, blues brothers, and mermaids won first prizes for their outfits but all the swimmers were able to benefit from the comfort of a mulled wine or chocolate after getting out of the water.
The weather conditions are ideal: good weather, absence of wind. Everything is there to ensure that the bar of 1,000 bathers is crossed for the first time.
Gilles Pinot, treasurer of the Gruissan festival committee.
New Year's baths are obviously carried out under the supervision of the SNSM or the firefighters. On most beaches, a certificate is offered to courageous swimmers to attest to their presence.
