L’Canadian actor Angus MacInnes, well known to fans of Star Wars for his iconic role as Gold Leader, died on December 23, at the age of 77. His family announced the sad news via a message posted on Facebook, specifying that he had left them peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.

Angus MacInnes will be remembered as an accessible and passionate actor, always enthusiastic about sharing moments with his fans, especially at conventions. The family added that fans of Star Wars held a special place in his heart. “The stories you shared with him, your love for the saga, always touched him,” the family message underlined.
Born in 1947 in Ontario, Angus MacInnes began his film career in 1975 with a small role in the film Rollerball. He distinguished himself in 1977 in Star Wars: A New Hopewhere he plays the leader of Gold Squadron, the one who orchestrates the decisive attack against the Death Star. MacInnes reappears briefly in 2016 in Rogue One : A Star Wars Story, a spin-off where he reprises his role using archive footage that he re-dubbed, to the delight of fans. “It was strange to see myself in a film that I had made forty years earlier, but very fun,” he confided, as reported by BFMTV.
An intact passion
But Angus MacInnes was not limited to the world of Star Wars. His career spans a wide variety of genres, from science fiction to dramas to horror. Among his memorable roles, we find him in 1985 in the film Witnessalongside Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis, as well as in Hellraiser II: The Flayed (1988), a cult horror film. He also appears in renowned productions, such as Judge Dredd (1995), Hellboy (2004), or even The Black Dahlia (2006).

The actor also made a notable appearance in Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Stanley Kubrick, where he played a doorman. More recently, in 2013, he played in Captain Phillipsalongside Tom Hanks, and participated in two episodes of the series Vikingswhere he played Tostig.
