The Vienna Philharmonic has announced that its 2026 New Year’s concert will be conducted for the first time by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The Canadian conductor has collaborated regularly with the orchestra since the 2010 Mozartwoche in Salzburg.
This year, on the occasion of the bicentenary of Johann Strauss II, the New Year’s Concert was conducted at the Musikverein by Riccardo Muti for the seventh time, after 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2018 and 2021. A very beautiful concert, tinted on numerous occasions of a certain seriousness and marked by the programming, for the first time, of a female composer: Constanze Geiger with the Ferdinand-Walzer. In his address to the public, the moved leader wished in Italian “peace, fraternity and love to the whole world”. (NF)
