What to do with your Christmas tree once the holidays are over? To prevent them from ending up abandoned in public spaces or in unsuitable garbage bins, the Grenoble Metropolis offers a simple and ecological solution.
Transformed into compost
From January 6 to 31, 2025, 59 collection points will be installed in 17 municipalities, thanks to a partnership between the Metropolis and the urban cleanliness services of the municipalities concerned. These points, called “tree parks”, will allow residents to place their natural trees, free of their decorations, bases and artificial snow.
Once collected, the fir trees are crushed before being sent to the Murianette composting center. Transformed into compost, they enrich the soil of local farmers free of charge. Individuals can also benefit from it from 1is March, by going directly to the Murianette center to collect self-service compost.
The participating municipalities are as follows: Bresson, Claix, Échirolles, Eybens, Fontaine, Gières, Grenoble, La Tronche, Meylan, Poisat, Le Pont-de-Claix, Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux, Saint-Paul-de-Varces , Sassenage, Seyssins, Seyssinet-Pariset and Vizille.
Since the implementation of this system in 2017, illegal dumping has decreased, and around 13,000 fir trees are collected each year, or nearly 32 tonnes of shredded material.
The map of the 59 collection points can be found on the Grenoble Alpes Métropole website.
