Dani Olmo has been removed from the list of players allowed to participate in Spain’s La Liga from Wednesday, casting doubt on the Spanish midfielder’s future after the competition announced the Catalan club are failing to meet financial requirements necessary to continue competing.
In the meantime, Olmo celebrated the arrival of 2025 on social media with two photos featuring him with his partner and friends, accompanied by two hearts in the colors of Barcelona and the message “It’s time to 2025.”
On its official website, La Liga removed the name of Olmo as well as that of striker Pau Víctor, both recruited by FC Barcelona this summer, after the competition revealed on Tuesday evening that the club had not presented of “alternative” allowing the registration of new players to be validated under “LALIGA’s economic control regulations”.
However, Danish defender Andreas Christensen, who was sidelined in the opening weeks of the competition due to injury, has reappeared in Barca’s squad available for La Liga.

The debt-burdened Blaugrana had registered Olmo until December 31, 2024, using 80% of Christensen’s salary, thanks to an exception allowing clubs to replace players absent for long periods.
Due to spending limits imposed by La Liga, Olmo had temporarily played until Barcelona could resolve their financial problems.
With an uncertain future, Olmo could now sign with any club; However, the Blaugrana, who have exhausted all legal avenues to extend his registration until June 30, 2025, announced on Tuesday that they had requested a new license from the Spanish Football Federation for him and Pau Víctor.
According to Spanish media, the move would give Barcelona additional valuable time to resolve its problems.

Olmo’s potential free departure would be a sporting and economic blow for Barca, who currently occupy third place in La Liga and second place in the Champions League. The 26-year-old has scored five goals in the domestic league and one in the prestigious European competition.
Born in Terrassa, near Barcelona, Olmo grew up in Barca’s youth ranks before playing in the Croatian and German leagues, before returning to his boyhood club as an established player after an outstanding performance in the Euro 2024, which the Spanish national team won in July 2024.
