The Spanish league has denied FC Barcelona the registration of Euro 2020 champion Dani Olmo for the rest of the season. The league confirmed this decision, citing the financial difficulties affecting the Catalan club. FC Barcelona failed to present an alternative plan to meet the registration requirements. Additionally, a new license application for Victor was also rejected.

The club had previously tried to force registration through court proceedings, but without success. Reports suggest that FC Barcelona are looking to secure €100 million through the sale of VIP boxes at the renovated Camp Nou stadium to resolve the problem.

Olmo’s future is now uncertain. Without registration, he is no longer part of the team and could be on his way out. This season, FC Barcelona has seen former German national manager Hansi Flick take the reins, and the club claims to have submitted a license application for Olmo and Pau Victor to the Spanish Football Federation.

Additionally, the Catalan club refuted claims made before the league’s decision that it had received a moratorium on the registration of another body. According to “Mundo Deportivo”, citing sources within the federation, no federation license can be requested without the approval of the league. FC Barcelona could now aim to register in the current transfer window, which lasts until the beginning of February.

Barcelona signed Olmo from RB Leipzig for around €55 million last summer, with the 26-year-old reportedly agreeing a contract until July 2030. On New Year’s Eve, he posted a broken heart on X, a sentiment shared by his agent Andy Bara, who informed Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that Olmo wants to stay at Barcelona. “We are not considering any other option,” Bara stressed.
