News from August 2024
Company. The month of August was, like every year, an opportunity to commemorate the Bois du Cazier disaster and the miners who died on August 8, 1956. The Love Festival, in the city center, was an opportunity for all and everyone to live their love in broad daylight, LGBTQIA+ or straight. This year, with the start of the school year on August 26, we went there to tell you about the first day – in music thanks to groups and the Eden cultural center – of the little Carolos schoolchildren. The pressure on hospital staff, denounced since Covid, exploded at the GHdC when a (minor) operation could not be carried out because the nurses decided to sit on their hands: “there are not enough of us for you to operate”.
Big projects. We have exclusively announced the creation of a research center on hydrogen (the energy of the future?) at the Porte Ouest in Charleroi.
Policy. Gaëtan Bangisa, municipal councilor in Charleroi then regional PS deputy, announced that he was ending his political life. Meanwhile, concerned residents set up a petition to save a tree on rue des Francs in the city center: it was supposed to be cut down, but the city turned around, promising to “do everything” to avoid cutting it down despite its disease and the buried tank too small for its roots, while they redid the entire neighboring plot. A standoff won by local residents (two months before the elections, it should be remembered). Caroline Taquin and Joël Hasselin were the targets of a complaint from a leader of RC Gouy, whom the two elected officials had insulted on social networks. In Anderlues, Rudy Zanola and Michaël Guyot, two PS vote-makers, joined the AJC opposition to stand up against their socialist mayor. Bet won since they are part of the new college after the October election. Still in Charleroi, Jean-Noël Gillard (Défi) announced that he was joining the MR-IC municipal lists. He was elected two months later and left Défi to join the MR. Finally, on the last day of August, we got the end of the story: Paul Magnette no longer wants to be mayor and the PS validates Thomas Dermine as head of the list – he will be elected two months later.
Unusual. We tested “Crazy Basket Game” for you, a carolo board game which features… a basketball game! A thousand people lined up in front of the Molière bookstore for a signing of the third book by Philippe Boxho.
