A bit of -Francs in “Surprising Detective”

The television series “Surprising Detective” began on TVA. We find a bit of -Francs there since Tingwickoise Maureen Martineau co-wrote (with Marie-Ève Bourassa) the script for this detective series.

In a telephone interview, she explained that even if she had already watched the series that we saw on illico some time ago, she enjoyed seeing it again on traditional .

The first episode (of six) was presented on January 8 and Maureen remains impressed with the result. “There have been a lot of reactions since the start of the broadcast and no negative comments,” she appreciates.

It must be said that the series is aimed at a very wide audience and offers a simple but well-crafted plot, as Maureen indicates. In addition, the actors are good and the Magdalen landscapes are breathtaking.

The co-author of the scripts, for whom it was the first work of its kind, mentions recognizing her work in the final product, which she appreciates. It should be remembered that the series is inspired by Jean Lemire’s novel, “We all end up paying”. The scenario is therefore inspired by the written word to which it was necessary to add subplots to stick to the television format and add to the narrative framework. “We worked hard,” confides Maureen Martineau, who appreciated this teamwork.

For someone who has already written for the theatrical genre (at Parminou), this work for television has nothing to do with what she knew before. She therefore launched into the project a little naively, for which she followed various training courses. “I thought it would be easy, but it’s something completely different,” she discovered.

The format, for example, requires five blocks interspersed with commercial breaks. “So you need a hook at the end of each one. It’s very technical and it’s a job in itself,” underlines the woman who appreciates writing in complete freedom. This creative work, with technical constraints, will therefore have been educational for her, even if she does not plan to return to it. “Unless it’s for one of my novels,” she adds.

Moreover, the project of putting his novel “Zec la croche” on screen has yet to be realized, the production house which has the rights being still looking for a broadcaster. In the meantime, Maureen has resumed writing her novels and announces the release, in August, of “Summer Night in Little Brook”, which is currently being edited.

As for the series “Surprising Detective”, it is presented on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on TVA. Also, to stay in the region, there is the series “Mea Culpa”, broadcast on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on - TV, where you can see Victoriaville resident Léokim Beaumier-Lépine play the role of young David.
