Notre-Dame de Paris welcomed “860,000 people since the reopening” to the general public on December 16, after the inauguration ceremonies of the first week.

(Keystone-ATS) The cathedral has since welcomed “29,000 people per day, and this can rise to 35,000 on Thursday nights,” said Sybille Bellamy-Brown, head of public management at the Paris cathedral on Wednesday during a press conference, recalling as an example that the Louvre welcomed 30,000 visitors daily.
Attendance was estimated at around 23,500 people per day before the fire which ravaged Notre-Dame in April 2019.
“The craze cannot be denied”
The cathedral reopened on the weekend of December 7 and 8 in the presence of many personalities, and then hosted a week of “novena” with reduced access. Since the full reopening to the general public on December 16, the enthusiasm has not waned, with the winter holidays (Christmas) adding to the attraction of the novelty, which created long lines at the end of the year .
But “for two weeks, we have not been queuing,” assured the manager, recalling that entry could be made with or without reservation and that moreover only “a third” of entries were made with it.
“Everyone has the opportunity to enter the cathedral freely,” she recalled, emphasizing that entry was free.
