A crew member of a plane which landed urgently in Austria on December 23 died on Monday, said the company Swiss, which did not specify the causes of death.

A member of the crew of a flight between Bucharest and Zurich died this Monday, December 30, after an emergency landing on December 23 in Graz, Austria.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of our dear colleague. His passing has deeply shocked and saddened us all. Our thoughts are with his family, whose pain we cannot imagine. We will of course do everything in our power to help and support them in this particularly difficult ordeal,” said Jens Fehlinger, general director of Swiss, the Swiss company which chartered the plane.

The crew member had been in intensive care since the emergency landing. 74 passengers were on board this aircraft, an Airbus A220-300, and twelve required treatment.

“Engine problems” according to first analyzes

“We also ask that you understand that, out of respect for his family, we will not be providing any additional details about the deceased or the cause of death,” the company said in a statement.

The flight between Bucharest and Zurich was forced to make an emergency landing on Monday December 23 “following engine problems and the detection of smoke in the cabin and cockpit.” The Swiss company estimated this Thursday that there are no reasons to ground its fleet of devices of the same type.

“Based on our current analyzes and in close consultation with the competent authorities, there is no indication that the safety of this type of aircraft is compromised,” Swiss underlined in its press release.

This death occurs in a context marked by numerous air disasters. In Kazakhstan, a plane crashed this Wednesday and caused the death of 38 people according to a latest report. In South Korea, a plane crash killed 179 people this Sunday, the worst air disaster in the country’s history.
