At 40, LeBron James still has no plans to retire from the court. With an optional year in 2025-2026 with the Lakers, the presence of his son Bronny on the team and the prospect of the Los Angeles Olympic Games in four years, the King still has some nice leftovers and is making it known.

At the start of this 2024-2025 season, LeBron James had not scored a single basket when he had already equaled a record, that of longevity in the NBA of Vince Carter with 22 full seasons. Drafted first overall in 2003 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Akron, Ohio native has become, over the years, the “King”. Quadruple American League champion (2012 and 2013 with Miami, 2016 with Cleveland and 2020 with Los Angeles Lakers), the leader/winger/power forward also has three Olympic titles with Team USA, four NBA Finals MVP titles, four titles regular season MVP in addition to his various All-Star Game selections. At 40 years old this year, LeBron James is the player with the most points in the NBA with 41,003 career points as of early December. He is alone at the top of the pyramid but “The Chosen One” is insatiable, eternally dissatisfied and a formidable competitor.

His son, key element

Contrary to what was said above, LeBron James did not break one record at the start of the first game of the regular season but two. Indeed, with the presence on the court of Bronny James, his son, “The King” became the first player to play with his offspring. Moreover, this “son of” played a role in his father’s career since his presence encouraged his father to continue the adventure. The Lakers indeed agreed to draft Bronny James despite his decent performances but nothing more, in order to convince James Sr. to continue in California. And LeBron James maintains the level of demand with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists on average this season as of December 13.

At 40, the American remains impressive but he also knows how important it is to take care of his body. The Team USA star took up yoga a few years ago, takes care of his body before and after matches and bought sophisticated machines at home (cryotherapy, hyperbaric chamber, etc.). LeBron James therefore has an option year to play until 2026 but let's also not forget that the 2028 Olympic Games will take place in Los Angeles and that in this sense, he could continue with the aim of participating in them. .
